Purpose of Mini Badges?

What is the purpose of a mini police or fire badge? I’m assuming it’s to wear on a suit to a department related event or to a conference or job interview. Please just clarify that for me, thanks in advance.

Yes, a "mini badge" would normally be worn on the left lapel of a suit coat or blazer when attending an event at which it would be appropriate.

Because having a dull sized badge would be illegal. These are given out as a form of graft.
