Sounds like a very nice rifle. I am a fan of the .270 also.
Good luck and good hunting.

The 270 round is a very nice round, and broadside shots will take up to elk in the Deer family. Shoots flat so good for long range. I like the 30/06 better but I hunt heavy wooded areas so long range shots are not a normal thing. Plus I am big so I feel the extra recoil less than a small person will. For a small person the 270 is a very good choice, and for long range that also holds true. ENJOY!

Sounds like a nice rifle and should do the job. My only suggestion is learn how to load your own ammo. Yes its expensive to get started but pays off big time in the long run. You could hand load different round and find the sweet load that will give you the accuracy you want from that rifle. My brother and I had long distance shot on coyotes in montana and many shots were over 600 yards and he picked off many ayote with his custom .270 rifle. And I have got nice groups with mine and used it to take deer, black bear, antelope and many varmints.

The 270 is a great rifle but you do not have the selection of bullets available like a 30 cal shooter has - especially if you handload.

In my opinion - the formula for successful long distance shooting is 1/3 rifle, 1/3 skill and 1/3 ammunition. You are severely handicap being restricted to factory ammo or a caliber that does not enjoy access to the same high ballistic coefficient projectiles as other cartridges. People using 308 have access to lots of different match ammo and military match ammo. Companies make match 30-06 and 300win mag. 270 is a big game hunting cartridge with very few folks asking for long range match ammo - so about none is around.

Since you are asking this here - I could assume you are new to LR shooting and are hoping to improve your skills. Your lack of skill and access to decent ammo is going to make this a frustrating experience.

Yes, you could take up handloading and make a awesome load - but - that is not going to happen in 2019 or 2020 unless you already have master like reloading skills and a 300-1,000 yard range 20 minutes from home so you run back and forth with test loads. I live in Alaska and have always had at least a 200yd area within 20 minutes of where I live. Back when I lived in Lynn Mass - it was a 3hr drive into Maine before I could find a public range. You could get lucky - I have seen it - people drop into a awesome load in the first 4 or 5 tries. Its rare. I have more shooting friends with awesome rifles that they have only found OK loads but nothing that beats factory...…years trying.

If you already had a 300win mag or 308 win with a few years exp under your belt this would be a fun project. Fact is you could dump $2,200 into this, not like it and nobody wanting to buy it from you.
