Genisys had a great cast, but wasn't particularly good. None of the films after Judgement Day have been very good, these are sequels for the sake of sequels - rather than advancing the story they simply recast and rehash the same themes.
The new film has 3 important things that should make it better than the last few (though in fairness that isn't a huge challenge). First, James Cameron is back - this statement speaks for itself and needs no elaboration.
Second, it is a true sequel to the first 2 films, not a reboot, and plans to ignore films 3-5. Rise of the Machines, while kind of fun, was campy garbage and lacked the grit and feel of the first 2 films. Salvation was garbage, you can't make a film a success by throwing an ensemble cast at it and hoping for the best, you need a story - we're talking about an action block-buster that opened BEHIND the Night at the Museum sequel in theaters. Genisys was an unimaginative reboot for a film series that didn't need one - we need story progress and a true ending.
And third, Linda Hamilton is back. On screen, Hamilton was the centerpiece of the franchise. Her transformation through the first film and into the second is one of the best-executed in science fiction films. They needed an actress, not a beauty queen, the point wasn't for her to be someone special, but the opposite. She's an average woman who just happens to end up the mother of the guy who will save us all. She has to become a warrior, so that she can raise a warrior.
If sexy is all you're looking for in an action film, there's plenty of other places to look. That's not what this story was mean to be about. Go rewatch the first two films - dark, violent struggles for survival against extermination.
