What kind of a Christian am I?

2019-01-20 5:30 am
I consider myself a Christian, but not catholic. I don't believe the church stands between the contact for a human and God. I also don't believe in a hating God and punishing God (except for like the worst criminals like pedephiles), I don't believe God expects us to be some way (like straight, monogamous, no sex before marriage,...) although I am straight and monogamous. I just believe He wants us to be good people, and that he will love us just the way we are. At first I thought I was a Protestant, but that doesn't seem to be quite it either... I also believe God doesn't prefer you to marry someone of the same religion, as I'm in a relationship with a Muslim right now he's kinda the same as me but then a Muslim. Can someone help me out as to which kind of Christian I am?

Music, give me a choice. How many "kinds" are there?

Being kind I'd say a nominal Christian

Being direct and truthful I'd say a fake Christian.

...look the simple reality is that you're faith is based on what you think God should be. You could call it "customised" or "personalised" faith.... and it's perhaps one of the most common forms of belief. It belongs with the "God wouldn't send nice people to hell" brigade.

The reality is that if there's a God He's sent us His word in the form of a Holy Book or He hasn't. If He hasn't then He's either Incompetent/weak (because He couldn't) or uncaring (because He couldn't be bothered). This applies just the same if He allowed a Holy Book that was partially correct (and partially wrong).

The problem you have is that you want God to be like you think He should be and cannot accept that He must be like one described in the Holy Book or non-existent.

Now all the Holy Books differ in how you can please God, how you can avoid displeasing God and most importantly how you get to live after death. They are so different that they cannot be the same God, the same actions or the same result, though many try to avoid this reality and believe otherwise.

There is ONLY one kind of Christian.... one that in their heart accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, and who as a direct consequence, wants to serve Him... showing love, seeking truth, reading His word, etc.... and the bible gives us all the acid test on how we can know if you're a Christian or not....."by their fruits".

..in other words, if you are truly a follower of Christ you will exhibit the fruits identified in the bible that bring glory to the name of Jesus Christ. If you do good things and they don't bring glory to Christ, then you're not a Christian, just a well intentioned person. If you don't do good things then you're also not a Christian.

...but in your question and the subsequent information you make no mention of Jesus Christ, your service to Him or your bring glory to His name... you, therefore, are unlikely to be a Christian..

Never water-down the words of God, when we perform the latter we slowly desensitize the word until it has no values.

You're a new Christian. Once you study Christianity you will be a new Atheist . Now get to bible study and learn Christian mythology .

Catholic is false and leads to hell, so avoid that for sure. What matters is what the Bible says about everything, since the Bible is the absolute Word of God.
...
The truth is that Jesus loves you and wants to bless your life freely :) Most of all, Jesus wants you with Him forever, and not in hell. The truth is that every belief except one will lead to eternal torment in the lake of fire for every person. Because nothing pays for our sins except the death and blood of Jesus, the sacrifice of Jesus that is already accomplished by Him . Jesus loves you! The truth is that Jesus is God, and Jesus died on the cross to pay for all of our sins in full, and then Jesus resurrected from the dead. Nothing else pays for our sins, not works, not deeds, not religions. So the only way to heaven and to avoid hell, is by believing in Jesus for eternal life (John 6:47), without adding any of your own works (Romans 4:5). Believe in Jesus to take you to heaven, and you will be in heaven, no matter what, guaranteed. That easy, thanks to Jesus! Tell Jesus that you thank Him that you will be with Him in heaven when you die, because you believe in Jesus! It is too late to be saved, after death.

It's not for me to say whether you are a Christian or not. Only the Lord Himself has that ability and the authority.

But I can tell you this: you are extremely ignorant regarding what the Bible says. If you are serious about your Christian faith, I strongly suggest that you study it. Although any responsible version will do, I'd recommend the New International Version (NIV), or the Revised Standard Version (RSV). And there are also plenty of study aids available, many of them free and online.

If you find that parts of the Bible make you uncomfortable, welcome to the club 😏 But being a Christian is NOT about feeling warm & fuzzy all the time. It's about trusting the Lord, and serving Him faithfully even when you are UNcomfortable. Jesus was faithful to the Lord, even with nails in His hands and feet, and even when the Lord had temporarily forsaken Him (Matthew 27:46, Mark 15:34).

at best you sound very confused as to what you believe. Perhaps a worldly Christian?

Realize that God is open and desirous of hearing your honest but respectful disagreeing thoughts on matters. Sometimes it is just about asking Him to help you understand. Other times God has actually changed his course because a lowly human He has a relationship suggested otherwise (like Moses convincing God not to destroy the Israelites).

For God to be your God, though, you must accept that there will be things you don't understand, and on these you must trust God whether it makes since to you or not. Thus you cannot just pick and choose which doctrines you like and don't like, or the only kind of Christian you will be is a lukewarm one.

You are a backslidden Christian that has relinquished much of God's teachings from the Old Testament, and Jesus' from the New Testament. Much of what you do accept, God regards as sin, to which He takes exception. Both you and your Muslim friend are both compromising your faiths.

I belong to Christ. You decide what's important to you, but if Christ isn't front and center of being a Christian, then what else would be? Who you mate with?

1) "I consider myself a Christian, but not catholic. I don't believe the church stands between the contact for a human and God." - Consistent with the Bible. "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5)

2) " I also don't believe in a hating God" - Consistent with the Bible. "God is love" (1 John 4:8)

3) "and punishing God (except for like the worst criminals like pedephiles)" - NOT consistent with the Bible. All sin must and will be punished. "He will punish sin wherever it is found." (Romans 2:12)

4) "I don't believe God expects us to be some way (like straight, monogamous, no sex before marriage,...) although I am straight and monogamous." - NOT consistent with the Bible

5) "I just believe He wants us to be good people," - NOT consistent with the Bible. "There is no one that does good not even one." (Romans 3:12)

6) and that he will love us just the way we are." - Consistent with the Bible. "We love him, because he first loved us." (1 John 4:19 )

7) "At first I thought I was a Protestant, but that doesn't seem to be quite it either..." - Many apostate Protestants subscribe to your way of thinking.

8) "I also believe God doesn't prefer you to marry someone of the same religion, as I'm in a relationship with a Muslim right now he's kinda the same as me but then a Muslim." - NOT Consistent with the Bible. "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14)

9) "Can someone help me out as to which kind of Christian I am?" - You are currently NOT a Christian at all.

Let’s take a moment to personalize God’s message to us. What must we know, individually? God’s Word is very clear – there will be a final judgment (Revelation 20). The only way to be saved from the eternal consequences of the judgment – in this era – is to believe on Jesus as Savior and Lord. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). Here is a simple and concise survey of passages of scripture that will help you understand what needs to be known and done about salvation – before anything else needs to be known about God:

• We are sinners: Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”
• Sin and not believing in Jesus brings eternal condemnation: Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” John 3:18, “He who believes in him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
• God loves us and has provided an escape from eternal punishment: John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
• Jesus is the only way: John 14:6, Jesus answered, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
• Salvation is by the grace of God through our faith: Ephesians 2:8,9, “For by grace are you saved, through faith - and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God - not of works lest anyone should boast.”
• Salvation is the result of confessing that Jesus is Lord and that He was resurrected from the dead: Romans 10:9,10, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
• Jesus is waiting at the door to enter your life: Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”
• Don't procrastinate, seek the Lord while He is near: Isaiah 55:6, “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near.”

If you have the 8 points above correct, you are on the right path, the straight way and will enter through the narrow gate: Matthew 7:13. Here is a suggested prayer to help you acknowledge your decision to accept and believe in Jesus: “Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead. I trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In your name, Amen.” And, as promised in 1 Corinthians 2:9, you will not be disappointed: “But as it is written: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those that love him.”

Believe the bible, your guilty of Idolatry you've made a God in your mind that you feel comfortable with.

If you dont believe that the Bible is the Word of God then your not a Christian at all.
2019-01-20 5:33 am
You sound like some brand of new-age Protestant to me.
2019-01-20 5:36 am
I've been attending a Unity church which shares a lot of your beliefs. Unity is a metaphysical interpretation of Christianity and tends to be very liberal. Another group that you may feel at home with is Unitarian Universalism. They don't have shared beliefs, but shared principles and while their services resemble many Christian ones, they encompass many beliefs.

Sounds to me as if you are a rational one. So far as the Muslim beau, check out the difference between females and males in his religion. Islamic scripture points toward women being property, not equal helpmates. Talk through that before you get too committed.

You are what the Bible would call a follower of Jesus. The Bible would also describe you as being Unevenly Yoked. Christians are to marry other Christians. Please read, study and obey the Bible.
2019-01-20 5:31 am
No Christian at all.
2019-01-20 5:31 am
Jesus would describe you as a "Lord, Lord" type Christian (Mt 7:21-23).

Paul ( or someone CLAIMING to be Paul) wrote in First Corinthians
"...and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain."

So, try to find testable, repeatable, consistent evidence that a RISEN CHRIST does exist, in some manner which is able to affect the material world.

And IF IF IF you find it, do let me know, so i may give it the same test.

Until then, you are the kind of Believer whose hopes and fears can be manipulated by Religious Leaders.

Keep looking and asking questions. Look at the other faiths in the world - Buddhist, pagan. Maybe look at world beliefs of the origins of man.

I think most religions have the same core beliefs, but were then re-written by men to establish some kind of control. Have a look at the core beliefs and unravel the point at which men used it to control the masses.
For example - Emperor Constantine and the council of Nicea.
Ask your Muslim boyfriend what the importance of Mecca is and why there is a black meteorite so highly rated?

there are many truths to be found, but also so many red herrings along the way. have fun sorting it out.

you're fake. if you're not Catholic, you are not Christian at all; you're a satanist.
2019-01-20 5:33 am
There are something like 40,000 different varieties of Christian. There is something for everyone. Some Christian sects are hard, others are more tolerant and human - as Jesus was.
