Two guys from university were interested in me, but I wasn't ready to date anyone. They are the typical popular guys. I'm your typical free spirit, carefree and crazy/wild character, but I'm also very nice. I don't care to please people or follow the crowd. I do things on my own terms. All my life I've tried not to fit in and that has left me isolated by many. Also ive never thought guys were interested in me that much, coz I'm a non conformist and girls say I'm annoying. They go for the preppy popular girls who are all the same and quite mean. As soon as I go to live in another country for 6 months, and do some wild things that people would be embarrassed to show or think it's uncool, guys (including the 2 mentioned) pop up to me and say they REALLY wanna take me out on a date, they still haven't given up and they miss me. I wasnt even close to them at all. The more I avoid them, post wild/ whack/weird/fun things and be myself, they want me more? It doesn't make sense. I thought they'd be put off by me. What's going on? Thank you?

There's a certain fascination some have with the 'manic pixie dream girl' trope. This is largely from romcom culture and goes back to the days of silent film. The thing you need to know though is that if it's faked you'll eventually be uncovered. Doing things just to impress others often means you don't have any real self esteem.
