As more New Yorker moving toward to eastward, like Sheepshead Bay, Marine Park, Jamaica, do you feel living in Midwood a good choice?

Sheepshead Bay isn't a bad area, but it's changed a lot. There are many Russian Jews there now, and it does't have the same neighborhood feel that it did in the past. It's basically just an extension of Brighton Beach now. Midwood is nice. There are some beautiful blocks there lined with very nice homes. It's very expensive for what you get, and it's not a very convenient place to live at all. The train does run along East 16th Street, so you've got that, but it's not a place I'd want to live. Marine Park was very nice years ago as well, but it too has changed a lot. The rents are extortionate for a 2-fare zone - the nearest subway would be east 16th Street which is a B2 bus ride away along Avenue R... It's actually one of the few parts of Brooklyn where almost every household has a car in the driveway. Jamaica is different for several reasons. Firstly, because it's the only neighborhood you mentioned that's located in Queens and not Brooklyn. And secondly because it's far more built up than the others. It's a mixed area. it basically serves as the administrative heart of Queens as that's where the courts are and the Borough offices. There are areas in Queens that are far, far nicer. For example, Forest Hills is very similar to Midwood, Astoria is much better than Sheepshead Bay. Marine park has a lot in common with Howard Beach.

For the past couple weeks, I drove and checked around Bensonhurst, Midwood, Bay Ridge, and Sheepshead, there are a lot of new real estate and business improvements Zones, and the local community service agencies and churches assisting to promote “Shop Local, Eat Local, Enjoy Local”.

I also found Target’s expansion strategy are heavily taking advantage from such trend open up new stores in these area.

Based on this trend, I believe Bay Ridge, Dyker Height, Bensonhurst, Midwood living expenses will keep going up. The east side like Marine Park, Mill Basin, Spring Creek, or Jamaica area trend to be cheaper. Anyone agree?
