I don't have a scale. Just dry measuring cups and a wet one. I know how low calorie salad is and it shouldn't matter if i measure it, and I know i could eyeball it, butif i measure it which do i use?

Don't worry about measuring the salad and veggies. You need to measure your dressing.

If you are buying bagged greens the information is on the bag. Weight of the bag, the number of servings and how many calories per serving.
the veggies you get to add to the salad are also sort of easy to figure, you buy individual things and are charged per pound for peppers, onions and the like.
Packages of cheese will also give servings per container as well as the calorie count per serving.
Nuts, dried fruits the same. Probably best to omit the dried fruits and nuts they are more calorie dense but nuts are a good source of healthy oils.
For sure omit croutons or other bread like additions. Don't really worry about the veggies. It is the dressing that is more of a concern. I have found if I add some cheese and some good berries I can omit dressing all together the cheese and berries makes the salad moist and tasty enough.

most all ingredients in a salad are very low calorie veggies and are free foods on weight loss diets.
that includes all lettuces/greens, tomatoes, cucumber, radishes, zucchini, mushrooms. peppers. the ONLY things that need to be counted, calorie wise, is croutons, nuts, any meat/eggs, cheese and dressing.
In a food service setting, we did eyeball it in a salad bowl for the greens but the toppings has specific amounts, like 3 slices of each veggie, 1/4 cup shredded cheese, one hard boiled egg, sliced, etc

Use this guide: A healthy handful is about 4 ounces. A bit more or less doesn't matter.

as much lettuce n veggies as u choose to have is OK*...it's the actual measuring of the salad dressing which has the most calories in it.......so use a bit..but don't drown ur salad in the dressing*

I have more important things to worry about than the calories in fruits and vegetables. I mix the different bagged greens in a large bowl and add just enough dressing for flavor. I buy cucumbers and green peppers for snacks (they are both $.50 each) and cut them up and eat them. I often cut two at a time because I share with my three-year-old, who practically lives on fruits and vegetables.

I also eat we fruits whole without measuring. It is convenient to just grab one as a snack. I think more about veggie burgers, fries (on the rare occasion I have them), cookies, cake, etc.
