Daniel 2:44 shows us that the kingdom of God is an actual government - kingdom - that exists as a heavenly entity.
It is just as real as any earthly government that mankind lives under today.
The DESIRE for this government and its blessings should be in our heart. That is why Jesus taught us to pray for God's kingdom or government to COME. - Matthew 6:9-13.
When Jesus made that statement, who was he talking to, he was talking to the religious Pharisees who were plotting against him, he was not talking to the common people.
The Pharisees were Jesus’ enemies. Jesus stated that those hypocrites were not going to enter God’s Kingdom. Matthew 23:13
Now if the Pharisees were not to enter God’s Kingdom, could the Kingdom be in their hearts? Impossible! What, then, did Jesus mean?
Jesus and his followers went from place to place preaching The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
This was a strange message, The kingdom of heaven is at hand? Indeed it was strange to them; but it was right. Why? Because the kingly representative was present, he was in their midst, and in this sense the kingdom of heaven was at hand.
That this is so we have Jesus’ own words: The kingdom of God is not coming with striking observableness, neither will people be saying, See here! or, There! For, look! the kingdom of God is in your midst.
So the kingdom of God was not to come with an outward visible sign, as many expected, with striking observableness.
No, Jesus was there and he rightly preached that the Kingdom in the person of its King was at hand.
Jesus’ words in your midst have at times been translated “within you.” So some have thought that Jesus meant that the Kingdom of God reigns in the hearts of God’s servants.
But, obviously, the Kingdom of God is not within the hearts of these unbelieving Pharisees to whom Jesus is speaking.
Yet, it is in their midst, since the designated King of God’s Kingdom, Jesus Christ, is right among them.
