How do you mean by the "original" ?
The original sentence is better than the absolute construction you followed:-eg:-they followed her.ie:-which means (1)BG is to follow her;(2)BG to hold....(3)BG to protect....(4) original (=N + infinitive)
Let they=a no. of BG;
followed=protected/carried and continued;
her=a female candidate;
eg:-It being an Absolute Construction, they having protected/carried and continued, followed her.
Here the BG protecting/carrying and continuing is equivalent to an adverbial phrase (on the protecting etc. of the BG ) or an adverbial clause (when the BG protected/carried and continued). It defines the time, cause or the circumstance of an action here, equal in value, amount, meaning.
