A number of body guards followed the female candidate, some to hold her briefcase, some to protect her from being disturbed.?

這裡的some to hold .....,some to protect.
是不是等於 some holded her ...,some protected her.....

還是some that holded her...some that protected her.

A number of body guards followed the female candidate. Some holded her briefcase, and some protected her from being disturbed.?

(1) A number of body guards followed the female candidate, some holding her briefcase, and some protecting her from being disturbed.

(2) The female candidate was followed by a number of body guards, holding her BC and protecting her from being disturbed.

were holding her brief case;
were protecting her.

A number of body guards followed the female candidate, with some holding her briefcase and some protecting her from being disturbed.

** The prepositional phrase "with..." acts as adverbial telling what happened (or was happening) when the body guards followed the female candidate.

Note:
some to hold ....., some to protect.
這樣寫會令人覺得是 "some were to hold ..."
Some were (set) to hold her briefcase and some were (set) to protect her from being disturbed.
