Is there still doubt when a medicine is approved by FDA?
I want to take a medicine, which is approved by FDA since early 90s.
However, this drug is not critical. It won't lead to any health effects if I don't take it. Yes, It's Finasteride for treating male pattern hair loss.
Possible risks are - Decreased libido, temporary or permanent. Increased chance of prostate cancer in the future.
I'd like to know, when FDA approves a drug, did they have enough consideration about the risks. Will they approve a drug if it is very effective in curing a condition but very likely to induce other serious health effects?
Or I should ask in this way, if FDA approves a medicine, how low is the risk of the drug usually? Any comparision of the possiblitiy like air plane or car crash or something??

Almost every drug or medication has some kind of risk. In most cases it is small.
Only YOU can decide if the risk of side effects with that drug are worth it for you.
Male pattern baldness is caused by testosterone. You have two choices - wear it proudly as a sign of your masculinity or wear a wig. Taking drugs to reduce your masculinity is not the best course of action unless you are planning a sex change (sorry gender reassignment).
Your question doesn't make any sense.
The drug manufacturer and pharmacy paperwork has told you there ARE RISKS.. Some of the risks include: temporary decreased libido, permanent decreased libido, increased risk of prostate cancer...
If you read the paperwork that came with the medication (the pages of fine print and chemistry type stuff) it will tell you the specific risk amounts.
- if you haven't purchased the medication yet, this same information is available on the manufacturer's website.
