The "Far Side" of the Moon was referred to as the "Dark Side" to mean "Unknown" or "Not Visible" because the Moon is tidally locked to the Earth so it always has the same side facing the Earth, and the other side was never visible.
One of Pink Floyd's best albums.
Where the sun don't shine
There is no such thing. There is a FAR side that we can never see from Earth, but no dark side - all of the Moon is in sunlight half the time and in the dark the other half of the time, same as Earth. This is easy to see if you look at the Moon. It has phases and most of the time, the side we can see is not all visible. Some is in the dark.
For example, it is just past First Quarter at the moment so look up at it in the evening (as long as there are no clouds in the way!) and it is easy to see that only half of it is lit up and the other half is in darkness. (I was actually out in late afternoon today and saw this.) Over the next 2 weeks it will continue to appear to grow until the whole circle is lit up - Full Moon. Then as it continues along its orbit around the Earth, it will rise later and later and shrink into a crescent, until New Moon 2 weeks after that, when the side we can see will be completely in the dark and the far side will be completely in the light.
So what the Moon has is a much longer day than ours. Our day and night is 24 hours long, on the Moon it's 29 1/2 Earth days long and that's true everywhere on the Moon. There is no dark side.
So if you want to make sense, talk about the far side, not the dark side because there isn't one.
The Moon is in tidally locked rotation with Earth so the same side always faces us We can never see the other side and people call it the dark side but that's the wrong name for it - it's just the far side. The only way to see it is to send spacecraft round the back to have a look! Then have them send the pictures back once they're round to the near side again and can see Earth. The only people who have ever seen it with their own eyes are Apollo astronauts, because they needed to orbit the Moon.
There is no Dark side of the Moon
Just the part where sunlight is not falling on
The Moon however keeps one Hemisphere facing towards Earth because it is Tidally locked
Some Fools even disagree that it spins
Huh !!
Of course it spins on its Axis, it wouldn't present the same face to us otherwise
Sheesh !!
But in the Late Sixties a wonderful Group called Pink Floyyd brought out an Album called the Dark side of the Moon
I love to listen to it whilst smoking weed

There is no "dark side" of the moon. All parts of the moon get sunlight for half the time, just like the Earth does.
There is the far side of the moon, that was called the dark side before anything was known about it. Once Apollo 8 sent back images of the far side of the moon, it was no longer the dark side.
A metaphor for the dangerous side of insanity.
The side of the moon facing away from the Sun.
Dark side of the moon is a Pink Floyd album.
The moon does not have a Dark Side. The Moon has a FAR SIDE. It gets just as much sun light as the side facing the Earth. The moon orbits the Earth and the moon rotates on it's own axis and they are in sync. So the same side always faces Earth.
The Far Side we can't see from Earth.
The Dark Side of the Moon is a music album by Pink Floyd from the 70s - and it was COOL.

The side not facing the Earth. But its not really dark. That all depends on where it is relative to the sun.
Only one side of the Moon faces the earth. The side we cannot see is called the dark side.
The hemisphere of the Moon that always faces away from Earth.
No one has landed on the far side of the Moon (yet), but it has been thoroughly photographed and studied. It was first photographed in 1959 by a Soviet probe called Luna 3.
BTW, I've read two books by Michael Collins and one by Jim Lovell and I've watched and read several interviews with them and other Apollo astronauts. No Apollo astronaut has made a statement about aliens on the far side of the Moon, although such statements are sometimes falsely attributed to them.
Walter Cronkite got the term wrong and it stuck in popular usage, but, there is FAR side, which is permanently facing away from us, and there is NIGHT side, which is the side currently experiencing night, (which, on the Moon, does last 2 weeks, but is a far cry from permanent), but there is no DARK side.
The dark side of the moon is supposed to be the side we never see, the side that faces away from Earth. This side of the moon faces the cold, black expanse of space. ... Some astronomers grimace or roll their eyes when they hear someone talk about the dark side of the moon (unless they're also Pink Floyd fans).
It takes 27 earth days for the moon to rotate on its axis. There will be a darker portion of the moon at all times but there is no particular dark side of the moon.
