What should I do if I want to move out alone ?

So I’m almost 21 and I have been living in Georgia for 11 years . I recently got to New York to visit my family. Ever since I graduated high school I sort of have wanted to move to New York . But it’s either I wasn’t allowed to or can’t because my mom wouldn’t allow me to. I was born in New York and grew up there until I was 9 . I feel bad mostly for my grandma because she’s an elderly woman who’s in her 60 and she’s lost my grandpa and lives with my aunt who’s working full time. She doesn’t really take care of her. I always wanted to move out to New York and be able to take care of her. Do you think there’s a way to be able to move and not feel guilty

$$$$$$ it costs to move ANYWHERE. If you have $$ you do not move far. $$$$ a little further.

NYC and all cites are an expensive place to start out.

. Do you think there’s a way to be able to move and not feel guilty
GUILTY about WHAT?
Moving from home.
Moving out of state,
Caring for grandma
Having no job?
having no income?
Expecting some payment from Grandma?
Expecting FREE food and lodging?
You might want a date night? Do you take Grandma with you?

You can only be in one place at a time. You are allowed on days off or vacation to go where you can afford. You could fly home for the weekend if you wanted too.You make this sound like this is forever. You have absolutely no communication in either direction and cannot change your mind and move to some other place a few years from now.

That you want to care for....
How nice, CAN YOU do it? Do you know what to do?
Can you do it and also work to look after yourself? Did you expect free room and board?
A salary for giving care?

$$$ Family resources $$ will be a big part of this. NO ONE here can guess the resources of your family that might help or hinder this choice.

Expect moving expenses all things added up to be between $5- $10,000 Have some money in your pocket many one time expenses when you change addresses, The costs of just getting you and your stuff there are just part of it.

No one can guess what care Grandma needs now or ten years from now. What help do you have the training to give? How much time can you allot for Grandmas care from your other needs of the day.? If Grandma needs 24 hour care the night shift does not always get some sleep. Who covers while you sleep? Who covers when you want a day off or weekend adventure?

You will probably not please everybody. which ever choice you make. Did you think Adults have it easy and age 21 came with an instruction booklet?

You're 21. Your mother can't stop you.

Does your grandma need additional care / support? Have you spoken to her?

And - assuming you want to live on your own - can you afford to? NYC is not cheap.

You are adult. Your mother cannot tell you what to do.
