"... but I get overwhelmed by stuff ..." Maybe military service isn't for you. Just saying.

Meep,

Please see my Yahoo Best Answer at the link. I answered another woman also interested in the air force.

Good luck.

You need to ask yourself a few questions before joining the military.

Start with, "What do you want to do?". If the military spends $$ training you for a job you decide to hate - they are not going to pay $$ to put you in a different job you like. That means leaving in a few years - trained for something you do not want to do.

Some services like the Air Force - have bases all over the planet. If you want to stick close to your ageing parents or HS friends - the Air Force is not for you because you are probably not going to be stationed anyplace close to home. Perhaps in 10-15 years when you have some seniority - then you might catch a base close by but not until then.

Next - look for a career field that is 'moving' and 'growing'. You get trained in a fast moving area where companies on the outside want you - the military will pay up to $40,000 in a re-enlistment bonus. You get stuck cleaning toilets or doing paper work - no big bonus for you.

Do not choose a stagnant field. "Photo Journalist" is a great example. Maybe 1 person in 1,000 or 1500 does this and the waiting list is long. You end up languishing as an E2 while everyone else you went to boot camp with are E4 in one year and E5 in 2 or 3 years...…. and you are still an E2, cleaning toilets, waiting for school. Worse - once you leave school the only way you can advance is if someone retires...… and to make up for lost time most people in rates like this do not retire at 20 - they stay until 26 or 30 years if they can. This means when you retire - maybe your retirement check is $1700 a month...… and the rest of the folks you went to boot camp with - they didn't languish like you did in a slow rate - nope, they are now very senior enlisted, OCS etc and are getting $2600 to $3600+ a month.

Some services - Coast Guard - you would think are just in the US. Nope, they are all over the world too. Small services are nice - but - they don't have the big budget like other services.

Choose wisely.

How on earth would we know if you would be a good fit for the Air Force???? We know nothing about you.

There is nothing overwhelming about the Air Force
