Why did China buy foreign waste before?
I am aware that around Jan 1 2018, China stopped accepting foreign waste from countries such as the USA, UK, South Korea, other asian countries etc.
I have a few questions (that I couldn t find the answers to on the internet):
1. Could someone explain if there is a specific name for the banning policy?
2. Why did China buy foreign waste before? (i.e. how did they benefit from buying?)
3. What year did they start buying/ accepting foreign waste?
4. Is there a specific reason as to why they stopped accepting foreign waste?
It would be really helpful if you guys could answer in full detail or even if you leave a link that answers one of my questions;; that would be great!!
Thank you so much!!

China bought it and not only broke down and reused the material, but reversed engineered crap. They did not have the same concerns about the environment and their own people that other nations did at the time. China now produces enough of it's own crap, has grown large enough, that it no longer needs that material, so it changed what it would accept. Perfectly acceptable for them. As far the countries that sold China that crap, they were able to sell to their populations that it was good for the enviroment, the recycling and all that jazz, see we care was the message. But anyone who actually looked at it could see, it was just takeing the trash out and dumping down the road a bit, Out of sight, out of mind so to speak.
there are hazardous waste problems that is why the USA dumps its sh** Africa is a huge dumping ground too its contamination and sorting the huge amounts China is doing well now it doesn't need the garbage to make money from the processes are too costly now Poland has also stopped taking junk all the poor countries were dumping grounds there is money in scrap has always been an adage but China is rich now Africa is sadly still poor and drowning in the stuff its a worry
