"2,5-dimethylhex-3-yne (Brit)" ....... It's not just a British thing, it's an IUPAC thing. In days gone by the IUPAC would have said 2,5-dimethyl-3-hexyne was fine. It's simply the changing of the nomenclature "rules" by the IUPAC. Some of those changes haven't caught on on either side of the pond.
