Angular quantum number, ℓ = 0, 1, …… n-1

For n = 2, ℓ = 0 (s orbital) or 1 (p orbitals)
When n = 2 and ℓ = 0, the orbital is 2s.
When n = 2 and ℓ = 1, the orbitals are 2p.

The answer: B. 2s and C. 2p

n2 is the second shell. It has a 2s and a maximum of three 2p orbitals. The atoms of the elemetnts in second row of the periodic table have this type of arrangement of the electrons.

Li = 1s2, 2s1
Be = 1s2, 2s2
B = 1s2, 2s2, 2 p1
C = 1s2, 2s2, 2 p2
N = 1s2, 2s2, 2 p3
O = 1s2, 2s2, 2 p4
F = 1s2, 2s2, 2 p5
Ne = 1s2, 2s2, 2 p6

These are arrangement of the electrons for the elements in the second row of the periodic table.
