2.9999... is equal to 3

So the rational form would just be 3/1.

Here's how you can show that:
x = 2.99999...

Multiply both sides by 10. That's the same thing as shifting the decimal point one place to the right in the decimal:
10x = 29.99999...

Subtract the first equation from the second:
10x = 29.99999...
... x = . 2.99999...
------------------------
9x = 27
x = 27/9
x = 3/1

If you aren't clear on that, notice this pattern.
1/9 = 0.11111...
2/9 = 0.22222...
3/9 = 0.33333... (also 1/3)
4/9 = 0.44444...
5/9 = 0.55555...
6/9 = 0.66666... (also 2/3)
7/9 = 0.77777...
8/9 = 0.88888...
9/9 = 0.99999... (also 1)

Thus 2.99999... = 2 + 9/9 = 3

Answer:
2.99999... is exactly equal to 3

Let x = 2.99999999……..
Then 10x = 29.9999999……..

Substrate x from 10x :
10x - x = 29.9999999…….. - 2.99999999……..
9x = 27
x = 3
2.99999999…….. = 3 (or 3/1)

x = 2.999...
10x = 29.99...
10x-x = 29.99... - 2.999...
9x = 27
x = 3

2.9? There’s an infinite answer unless you mean the reduced form.

Reduced: 2.9 = 2 9/10 = (10*2 + 9)/10 = 29/10

But 29/10 = 58/20 = 57/30 = 116/40 = ...
