No. The PS3's blu-ray drive is quite fragile. Besides a standalone blu-ray player is $50 - that's way cheaper than a PS3.

Also the PS3 has been discontinued. There haven't been any new games released for it for awhile now. So if you want gaming you're probably better off looking at the PS4.

Right now, current prices on the secondary markets (like eBay) for the PS3 varies from $60 to $160. Please be aware that 1st Generation systems (yes, there's multiple generations of the console) typical go for more because of the backwards compatibility with PS1 & PS2 games (via hardware), which makes them more desirable. This compatibility was removed from all other generations as a cost-cutting measure (& it was a pain to properly implement with minimal issues).

I will need to mention that the PS3 DOES NOT SUPPORT 4K, so you won't be able to fully utilize the resolution that newer TV's in the 40+ inch range can support (TV's that are generally under 40 inches usually top out at 1080p while those under 30 inches usually top out at 720p... mostly as cost-cutting measures & it becomes difficult to distinguish quality differences at smaller screen sizes). If you're obsessive about video quality, the PS3 may not fit the bill unless you're OK with "Good Enough" quality.

As for the games, you're not going to be expecting to play anything new on the system & online multiplayer support is slowly dying because most players have moved onto the PS4. Therefore, you're more likely going to playing solo (or local multiplayer) with the games as a result.

Unless you're serious about playing PS3 games, you're better off going with a standard (or smart) BluRay player as they're generally less expensive ($50 - $100) & can potentially provide 4K resolution support.

Still worth it. I play cd's, copy cd to hardrive. Sometimes the music does load up from my computers too. Not consistent for me. It has cool visualizations. Also sometimes use a usb stick to play music. Pandora works fine, Tune In no longer working. Youtube works fine. BR works as it should. If you get a bigger hd you can copy a ton of music to it.

A standalone Blu-Ray player is $50 and DVD player $20. If you aren't gaming much, it's not worth the money

Sure, if you haven't played any of the games yet, it's a good option.
