Are there any differences between the following two sentences?

1.If I were a bird, I would fly.
2.If I were to be a bird, I would fly.

The difference is subtle.

Both are correct.

#2, using "were to" + infinitive: either emphasizes that the condition is very unlikely to occur (as in this case) or that it would be unthinkably horrible if it did (does not seem to apply here)
