A mixture of gases is produced by combining 4.0 L of N2 at 450 torr, and 3.5 L of O2 st 252 torr. the total volume of the new mixture is 7.5 L. the temperature is held constant.

Use the combined gas law.

Combined gas law: P₁V₁/T₁ = P₂V₂/T₂
When temperature is held constant: P₁V₁ = P₂V₂
Then, P₂ = P₁ × (V₁/V₂)

After mixing (answers to 2 sig. fig.) :
Partial pressure of N₂ = (450 torr) × (4.0/7.5) = 240 torr
Partial pressure of O₂ = (252 torr) × (3.5/7.5) = 120 torr

Total pressure = (240 + 120) torr = 360 torr

(The answer will be 240 torr, 118 torr and 358 torr when the answers are to 3 sig. fig.)
