I already have a bachelors degree, but it’s not in a related field. How long would it take to become an RN?

I'm not in the nursing field, but if you're wanting to get a BSN (bachelor of science in nursing), some of the "general education" (or "liberal arts") classes already taken during the first bachelor's degree program (e.g., history, English, college-level math, art history, and psychology) may transfer. If the science and/or math courses were taken more than 7-10 years ago, those course credits may *not* transfer or count, so the individual shall need to re-take them. Please speak with the "admissions" department before applying to the program(s) for further info.

Each nursing program may have slightly different pre-req courses and requirements, however, some typical pre-req classes include biology, chemistry, "general" anatomy & physiology, and/or microbiology. It's my understanding that biology is typically a pre-req course for "general" anatomy & physiology, so it may take one or two semesters of biology prior to taking anatomy & physiology. That may be *in addition to* the two years for the (full-time) BSN program.

Before taking pre-req courses for nursing (or any field), please do some "job shadowing" of BSNs (with prior staff approval), such as at an acute-care hospital, physical rehabilitation hospital, nursing home, and/or pediatric hospital.

Just an fyi that a physical rehabilitation hospital may treat patients with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), spinal cord injury/paralysis, stroke ("brain attack") - which is a type of brain injury - multiple sclerosis (MS), other neurological disorders, amputated limbs, hip/shoulder/knee replacement, for instance.

Two years
Your other degree just takes care of the general education courses not course work, unless you took some RN related course as electives.

You either find an accelerated RN program for someone with a bachelors but still take the pre reqs (2 ish years) or do a regular bachelors but get credit for the gen eds, 2 ish years depending. Possibly 1 extra year for the pre reqs.
