The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain's Novel (1835-1910) Published in 1885,Not 50 yrs before but rather 40 yrs later
Characters--Huck Finn-white boy; Jim--slave,Tom Sawyer, pap---Huck's dad, Aunt Polly---Tom's aunt
Setting (time)---Before Civil War 1835--1845,when Twain set the Book at 1885=1885-1845=40 yrs later.
Setting (place)---Mississippi River,St.Petersburg, Missouri, Arkansau
Points most memorable:-
(1)When Huck writes to Miss Watson that Phelps family are holding Jim, it is his clear conscience and moral that they are wrong in the kidnap.Tom and Huck try to free Jim and Tom is shot in the leg.
(2)Huck is innocent to take conventional morals and social relations at face value which Huck exposes hypocrisy, injustice, falsehood, and cruelty which is a satire writing of wickedness and false pretensions by the author,Mark Twain,who excells at ironic criticism of hypocrisy, injustice, falsehood, cruelty seen through eyes of Huck+Tom as the children.
(3)The contrast on a bloodthirsty boys' game of "Highwaymen" and ransom organized by Tom is echoed throughout the Book in Huck's escape from his violent father.He links up with escaped slave Jim and travelling down the Mississippi where they meet locals, river folk, bad people.When Huck witnesses a young boy dies in a pointless and rediculous feud-fight with another family, he finds it unexpected and absurd. Huck's naive remarks ,innocent in behaviour,young, inexperienced and humorous becomes the straightforwardness when relates his experience in the Book.
