What does "Spark of life" or simply "spark" mean in Remarque's books(especially in Arch of Triumph)?

"Also, if you like, because we are
sparks in an unknown wind. Drive on." Ravic told it to the taxi driver in Chapter 1. What does it mean in your opinion?

I am not convinced that the metaphorical spark in your sentence is meant to be the spark of life, which is the energy that is the essence of life, the something that is more than chemistry. The spark on the wind is a fire-starter, it goes where the wind sends it, and there is where it uses its energy to create or destroy, to achieve something, anyway.
