Can i take off from work for school?

This is not a leave of absence. You want seasonal work. You tell your boss you will be leaving for college and would like to work when you are at home for school breaks and over the summer.

At our retail store we have done this with college students.

It depends what job you have. There isn't a set answer.

Our girls worked part time while in college.

That is entirely up to your employer. If you cannot work because you are attending college, then you must resign your position. This isn't like taking a couple of days off for vacation. IF you are on good terms with your boss and IF they can afford to add staff during the holiday, they may well be open to bringing you back during your breaks or they may not. You have to ask them. There is no law or statute that provides for this.

That would apply for a one time absence, like for an extended vacation or to deal with a personal problem or take care of a sick family member.
What you want is seasonal employment.
You have to discuss this with your employer.
They're not likely to guarantee that you always have a job to return to.
But it may be possible to work something out with them.

can you? as long as your job allows it, yes. Depending on where you work, you can try to transfer someplace closer and maybe work 2-3 days of the week.

we have NO idea. you'd have to ask your supervisor for permission to take off work. or maybe just adjust work schedule to accommodate your school schedule.

if you're just thinking of leaving work all together in breaks to take class in breaks, that maybe difficult. it's not as easy to get a job for four to five months, then school for the next five, then get another job for five, etc.

if you have a job now, see if your company has any tuition reimbursement policies for workers. that's not uncommon. so ask around and see if they can help pay for college.
