In clinical applications, 1 ppm is equivalent to 1 mg of solute per 1 L of solution. Calculate the concentration in ppm for each of the following solutions:

a) 39μg calcium in a total volume of 83 mL.
b) 0.51 mg caffeine in a total volume of 147 mL.

c) 0.61 mg trace particle in a total volume of 97 dL solution.

a)
(0.039 mg) / (0.083 L) = 0.47 mg/L = 0.47 ppm

b)
(0.51 mg) / (0.147 L) = 3.47 mg/L = 3.47 ppm

c)
(0.61 mg) / (9.7 L) = 0.063 mg/L = 0.063 ppm
