Why is my car leaking fluid?

So my car is leaking fluid under the engine bay in the front of my vehicle. Do you think it could be a valve cover gasket leak or something more serious? It smells like gas sometimes as well. I've also been driving it around like that for a month now... what could it be?

If it was A/C, it would leak near the back of the engine. If you smell fuel, you need to stop driving it and have it towed to a mechanic right away. It could be a fuel line leak or even a leaky injector. Unless you're planning to convert your car into an oversized barbecue grill, I would suggest doing that NOW!

I think you have no clue and neither do we since we aren't there to look at it. Take it to a garage and get it looked at.

It could be ATF
It could be motor oil.
It could be a gasoline leak.
it could be power steering fluid leaking.
Don't you think it's a good idea to have it looked at immediately so you don't end up over heating the motor or having a motor fire and dying in your car?

WHAT fluid is leaking and WHERE is it coming from? If you can answer those two questions, then MAYBE someone can give you some guidance on how to proceed to fix your problem.

Gonna have to have somebody take a quick peak under it. There are many posiibilities.

If it smells like gasoline, it could be a leak from the pipe that carries fuel to the fuel pump. Check the fuel pump and its feed pipe.

First and most importantly, when you come here with a vehicle problem, please begin your explanation with some identification, like:

I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla with 1.8 liter engine and automatic transmission, with 287,000 miles. Then give some details of the problem.

My answer is based on what you WROTE:
YOU need to determine WHAT it is and WHERE it is coming from.

If it is gasoline, it is NOT from a leaky valve cover.

Hint: Park on a place that has no distracting drips. Wait for something to fall on the ground. Look directly UP to locate the probable source.

Rub your finger on it. Rub your fingers together to feel its consistency. Smell it. That is how most of us can identify what it is.

OR

Take your vehicle to somebody with a hoist. Stand under the car and look!

YOU do it or pay SOMEONE ELSE to do it.

There is no way that anybody here can tell you what it is from your minimal description.

Gas doesn't come out of a valve cover. If you can't tell what fluid it is, have a mechanic look at it. While the engine is COLD, check the radiator and if it isn't full, you have a coolant leak. Refill it and go to the shop for repair. A leaking valve cover will have oil go all over the place, from there on down, depending how bad or slight the leak is.

Dip the tip of your finger in the leak puddle. Taste it. That's correct taste the leak. If the leak taste's sweet you have a coolant leak otherwise you may have a power steering leak, oil pan leak, valve cover leak or transmission line leak going into the radiator cooler.
