go bust
go into liquidation

Do they mean the same?
If I want to use them in past tense, do I say went bust/ went into liquidation?

e.g. The maccas across went into liquidation/bust last month

Thanks.

Not in legal terms.
To say that a company 'went bust' really only means that it failed - ceased trading.

Going into liquidation is a legal process and is far more complicated. Going into liquidation, going bankrupt, collapsing, calling in the receivers - they all mean that the company has failed, but you would really need to read a lot of legal definitions to understand them.
