it would be hard to say Gladiator was under rated....... as it pretty much MADE Russell Crowe's career and did win numerous awards.
Likewise, Forrest Gump, was universally praised and was a freaking cultural phenomena. To this day, we still have "Bubba Gump Shrimp stores in Times Square.......... so how does this count as UNDER RATED?
I can list a dozen OVER rated films that won Best Picture.................Titanic and Avatar among them.......
(Titanic was an editing MESS......and Avatar........Amazing what some blue paint and Christmas lights can do for you....)
but an UNDER rated film, winning? Hmmmmmmmmmm................
in recent memory........I can only think of two.............The Kings Speech, didn't really seem to light many people's fires.......and you didn't hear everyone talking about it, like some other Academy Award winning films,. like Gump, or Gladiator or Titanic.
It won the award and then just quietly vanished into the Oscar mist.
and before that............I remember ARGO winning........and everyone was like........ARGO??? Ben Affleck????
and the next day, it was forgotten.
Usually films get a boost or bump by winning the award........but Argo, just sunk like a stone, even after winning.
