Energy needed to raise temperature = m c ΔT
Energy needed to melt a substance = m L

Energy needed to change 46.0 g ice at -58°C to 0°C ice
= (46.0 g) × (2.1 J/g°C) × 58°C
= 5603 J

Energy needed to melt 46.0 g ice at 0°C
= (46.0 g) × (334.4 J/g)
= 15382 J

Total energy necessary
= (5603 + 15382) J
= 21000 J
