Paracetamol can be synthesised by reacting 4-amino phenol with ethanoic anhydride according to the following equation?

2018-01-22 11:50 pm
C₆H₄NH₂OH + (CH₃O)₂O → C₆H₄NHCOCH₃OH

C₆H₄NH₂OH → 4-amino phenol,
(CH₃O)₂O → ethanoic anhydride,
C₆H₄NHCOCH₃OH → paracetamol

What mass of paracetamol could be obtained from 5.5 grams of 4-amino phenol?

(C= 12, H= 1, N= 14, O=16)

Please if you can include any relevant equations / formulae. Many thanks for all your help!

Molar mass of C₆H₄NH₂OH = (12×6 + 1×7 + 14 + 16) g/mol = 109 g/mol
Molar mass of C₆H₄NHCOCH₃OH = (12×8 + 1×9 + 14 + 16×2) g/mol = 151 g/mol

C₆H₄NH₂OH + (CH₃O)₂O → C₆H₄NHCOCH₃OH + other products
Mole ratio C₆H₄NH₂OH : C₆H₄NHCOCH₃OH = 1 : 1

No. of moles of C₆H₄NH₂OH reacted = (5.5 g) / (109 g/mol) = 0.0505 mol
No. of moles of C₆H₄NHCOCH₃OH obtained = (0.0505 mol) × (1/1) = 0.0505 mol
Mass of C₆H₄NHCOCH₃OH obtained = (0.0505 mol) × (151 g/mol) = 7.6 g (to 2 sig. fig.)
