I need some genuine advice. What would you do if this was you?

I'm currently attending a University in Kansas. It's a great university and I'm majoring in creative writing. I also want to minor in film production but that isn't an option here and I'm disappointed because writing and film are my dual passions. I checked with my advisor and the only thing she could offer me was a few courses that are similar to my field (mostly theatre).

Now my other issue is that there are no opportunities for internships, career paths, or even part-time jobs in my field anywhere near me. I've even looked for online writing and freelance writing but it's hard to find positions like that and still receive a solid income.

The worst but safer and cheaper option is to finish my next year and 1 semester at the university I'm attending. This means I will be working the same part-time jobs and won't enhance my skills/resume professionally (unless you count blogging). Another option I have is to transfer to a University in a bigger city with more opportunities and pay out of state tuition. I can, of course, get scholarships if I work my butt off this spring semester, I could find more options for part-time jobs. Still, it would be more expensive and more of an adjustment to move halfway across the country no matter which direction I go.

I'm sorry for the long post. I just have no one to talk to that will give me advice tailored to my situation. I appreciate whoever takes the time to read and answer this. Thank you.

Creative writing and film are both going to put you in a very hard position looking for jobs. The trouble you are having finding any internships is just going to be 10 times worse looking for an actual job. But then you've probably heard that before and you are convinced this is what you want.

You went to the wrong university. Transfer to one that has the programs you want. At this point you're stuck where you are for this semester, so research the place you'll transfer to and take courses this semester that will transfer to meet some requirement at the new school. Take control of your own plan for your future. Don't rely on an adviser to tell you what you can do.

There is a semester transfer program. You can go to another college for a semester or even a year at your current tuition. Check in to the options and see if you can go to a school that offers a course in video.
