To mandarin speaking people, what does this sentence mean?

Truly speaking, if this sentence was written by a pupil or a senor-high student, then it’s fine; however if this sentence was written by a well-educated person, I would say syntactic skills used in this sentence, may be just like my English writing, is not good enough – As I’m an English learner here in Taiwan;
For my opinion, 实际上有多小 is kind of weird writing here. The main ideas suggested by the first part of this sentence, the second part of this sentence should focus on “讓他們感覺到科技有多重要 -- let them feel how important Technology(Twitter) is” or “讓他們感覺到科技對人類很重要 --let them feel technology(Twitter) is so important to humans”, etc. So “实际上有多小 – how small they actually are”, in my opinion, should be fine-tuned to “科技(Twitter)对他們有多重要– how important technology(Twitter) is to them”, that has a direct hint – that we can’t live without technology(Twitter).
