A Robin got caught in a mouse trap, his leg is injured what can I do to help?

My dad left it out, he had it under a sort of half pipe (to stop the dogs from getting at it originally) but I'm guessing from the wind it blew off.
This morning we found a robin trapped in it, the second my dad lifted the bar the robin flew off.

Tonight when he came home it was sitting on our doorstep.
It's leg is quite badly broken, it looks to be broken in two places.
Where we're from there are no bird sanctuaries, we rang the vet and he said realistically he would have no choice but to put it down if we brought it to him.

Can we nurse it back to help?
Right now it's in a boot box (big shoe box) with a plastic grid over the top, some bird seed inside and straw etc..

My dad feels bad and he's thinking of getting a bird cage, to keep it in if it's not able to survive on it's own, or at least until a point in time it can.
We have 2 dogs which have caught birds in the past so we know if the bird is in our back garden the dogs could get at it..
Any advice?
更新1:

We're not sure if it has a damaged wing too since it did not/could not fly away when my dad went over to it on our doorstep.

Call a bird rehabber who can help with the bird. If anything is broken, they can take a look at the bird and try to help it. Look up: Bird rehabilitator, your city or zip. Most are required to have a special license. Keep the bird warm until then and offer water.

break toothpicks and straighten his leg then use the tooth picks to make a splint and tape it around his leg. Keep it in a cage. Pick up some wild bird seed to feed it. Put some paper under the cage so you can change it when the bird poops. You should be able to nurse him back to health if your patient and move slow and talk soft around the bird. Moving fast or being loud will terrify him. He came back because he need help and animals and birds feel humans will help them. They still fear us though. Oh, and break the sharp point off the toothpick.

we had many robins here even winters in NE, now there is nothing, we are in wild bird extermination mode. ...Take care of your robin if you are located north, it is rare around here.... mokrie has the right suggestions.

Keep it warm with a heating pad or lamp and provide food and water for a few days before you try to handle it. Wild birds can go into shock easily and this is what ultimately can kill them. Heat support is crucial to combat this as well as isolation. Avoid overheating and instead of trying to handle it continue to try to find a wild life rescue to help it.

We had a grackle that came to our backyard all the time to eat cat food we had out. It only had one foot and seemed to do just fine. I assume robins are a bit more dainty though, less hardy. But it may very well have a chance in the wild, even with just one working leg. If it’s wing is broken though, it would need to be in captivity.

Get it to a wildlife rescue. Just Google where you live and find one. Shame on you for using a trap. Disgusting.

A wildlife rehabber can help the bird. Contact one (your vet, animal control or local shelter can give you the phone numbers to call).
