If YOU are involved in an accident and you leave the scene it is called "Hit and Run" and is most definitely against the law.
In Britain a person would be charged with abandoning the scene of a road traffic accident which often leads to a custodial sentence.
Would you like to be more clear? I'm reading you ran from a crash, which means you were involved, and an eyewitness chased you instead of rendering aid. Yes leaving the scene of a collision is illegal, at least at the distance you are going. If your vehicle CAN be moved then a lot of places would ask that you pull off the road. Now if you were simply another witness and are saying you didn't render aid right away then what exactly means you had to? I mean you aren't telling us where you are from. If you were any sort of trained person you'd KNOW if you were to render aid or not. Also eyewitness trying to stop you was likely more right trying to stop you then rendering aid. Stopping the driver so they will be KNOWN is important. You could have been driving a neighbor's car or something where no one could have proven who was driving. Sure the owner could CLAIM it was you, but how would they prove it?
IF you were involved in the crash,, then yes... Leaving the scene of an accident before identifying yourself and rendering aid to the injured IS a violation of the law.
a) It depends on what legal jurisdiction you're in (state, province or country)
b) If you were involved in the accident, or in some way caused it, yes, leaving the scene is illegal
c) If serious injuries or a fatality was involved and you were a witness, the answer is often yes.
d) In some rural areas with no emergency services nearby, the answer is also yes if you were able to render assistance and did not.
Did you cause an accident and took off or did you see an accident and drove away?
If you were in an accident and took off, you will get caught and get into massive ****.
If you drove away from an accident you saw, that's not a very nice thing to do. At least call 9-1-1.
Yes and no. What's disturbing is a driver leaving scene of accident and then wonder why someone is chasing him instead of doing what he should have done in the first place.
Yes, it's called leaving the scene of an accident.
In most places, leaving the scene of an accident is against the law. Even if it's only a few 100 feet.
No. No one is required to help injured persons
