How does it happen like someone adopted looks like the adoptive parents as my friend like her adoptive father?

It happens. I have a (white) friend who adopted a bi-racial little girl about 20 years ago, and the friend just posted a photo shoot. I swear this young lady shares facial features and her smile with my friend. I've been told my adopted son has my smile, and a cousin who didn't know he's adopted thought my 3 year old pics looked just like he did at about 2.

In today's world many adoptions are "open" and the birth parents may choose the people who adopt their baby/child. This can meant that the birth parents may choose adoptive parents who look like themselves/their family members. Some birth parents may actively seek out people people who appear to be very similar to them in appearance. This way, their children will blend in while growing up, at least in appearance (or so they believe).

If the birth parents did not choose the adoptive parents, the similarity could have happened due to the agency choosing people who appeared to "match." Agencies used to try to do this so that child would seem to "blend in' with their adoptive family.

People can resemble one another without being biologically related.

I've heard very often that our daughter who became part of our family as a teenager looks like me while one of our daughters I gave birth to and I have looked and looked for years and we can't find a single facial feature we share in common, LOL!

You really don't resemble anyone you aren't related to? Off the top of my head, I can name at least half a dozen people I know well who I resemble more than my actual sister.

I have 2 teenage daughters 14 & 15 years old. One is adopted, the other is biological.. A lot of people know one of them is adopted, but usually when they guess which one... they're wrong.

My adopted daughter looks a lot like me. She has blue eyes and curly brown hair, just like me, skin tone is similar and so is her build, we're both petite. My biological daughter, she doesn't look anything like me. She looks like her dad. She has brown eyes, black hair (that's straight) and she's tall.

Everyone thought my dad was the father of a girl my mom babysat she had his coloring. It just happens.

Many adoptive parents look for kids that look similar to them to avoid being discovered that there is no blood relation.
