£1 = 100p
Total cost
= £8
= £8 × (100p/£)
= 800p
Total income
= 40 × (1/4) × 25p + 40 × (1/2) × 30p
= 250p + 600p
= 850p
Total income > Total cost
Hence, Sam makes a profit,
10 @ 25p + 20 @ 30p = £ 2•50 + £6 = £8•50
Sam makes a profit of 50 p
1/4 of 40 pencils is 10 pencils. At 25p each, that's revenue of £2.50.
1/2 of 40 pencils is 20 pencils. At 30p each, that's revenue of £6.00.
Sam's total revenue from the sale of his pencils is £8.50, which represents a profit of 50p over his cost of £8.00.
_____
What part of this can you not figure out?
10 * £0.25 + 20 * £0.30 + 10 * £0 = £8.50
Sam makes a profit of 50p
