Why do my earbuds always break?!?!?

It seems like every time I buy a pair of earbuds they only last a couple of weeks before breaking. I’ve bought expensive 50 dollar ones and very cheap 5 buck ones. Both lasted literally a few days. The expensive ones actually only about three hours. I try to be careful with them. I make sure they are nice and secure when I go places and I try to be extra careful with them. My parents have stopped buying me pairs because of how often they break and I’ve begun to buy 2-3 pairs at a time. I’m geting to tired of my earbuds suddenly breaking. That’s hat it’s like. One minute they’ll be completely fine and then suddenly their broken!

Learn to rely ONLY on REPUTABLE manufacturers such as Sennheiser, Shure, Grado, Denon, AKG, Bowers & Wilkins, Bang & Olufsen, Etymotic, Beyerdynamic, Audio-Technica. Also, learn to take a good care of your audio gear!

Maintenance tips:

Buy yourself a protective carrying case/pouch and put your audio gear in there whenever not in use
Always unplug your listening device whenever NOT in use
Do NOT wrap the cord around ANYTHING, do NOT let the cord become tangled!
Do NOT jerk your head too much while listening to the music
Do NOT pull from the cord, pull from the plug
Do NOT drop your audio device
Do NOT fall asleep with the earbuds on!
If using in-ear earbuds, please keep the plugs as clean as possible by using DRY lint-free cloth or DRY Q-tip or swab. Do NOT use any alcohol-based cleaning detergents!
Do NOT crank the volume up to the max, it will kill your audio gear in NO TIME (especially small earbuds which do NOT tolerate either high volume or high bass)!

Before you go any further, shut of your device and thoroughly clean the port with a pipe cleaner and barely a drop, blotted away, of Windex. Also clean the plugs - I hope you saved your old earbuds, because they might really be fine. Now, if you are stressing or breaking wires, then that is clearly your fault. Find a way to loop or coil them with no stress. If this does not help, I have other suggestions.

Added repair of typos.

Do you set it in your pocket with the plug down, so that the wire is forced to bend too far and often?

Any chance you like to wrap the cord tightly?

That can put strain on the wires and connections. Try just wrapping them loosely.
