Is a degree in psychology truly useless?

I'm in my third year of college, and hear all the time that a B.A. in psychology will get me no where... I want to be a school counselor, but worry now that I won't get this job with the high competition and lack of jobs available... Should I just change my major to something more "valuable"?

If I wasn't doing this, I would want to be a writer or librarian... But those seem to be useless and hard to obtain as well...

It is useless on its own, but it is useful in applying to many graduate programs, which is why you obtain a bachelor's degree in the first place. So start making plans for applying to grad programs.
