You're comparing apples and oranges. Cats are almost indifferent to people. They are territorial, but only in regards to other cats. That's because house cats are solitary animal. Dogs are pack animals, and quite attuned to human society. Some breeds are more territorial than others, but dogs will protect their humans, often to the death. Dogs serve people in many ways that cats can't, such as helping blind or disabled people navigate the world. In addition, dogs can be trained to do many useful things, including rescuing people trapped by earthquakes. Cats can't do any of this.
Apparently, you've never seen a cat attack a human. It's a scary sight and they can do some serious damage. I do agree on some level though, Dogs scare the crap out of me on occasion.

Cats claw up woodwork, claw up furniture, spray on stuff (and cat pee can NOT come out of stuff. Anything a cat pisses on is ruined). They only want attention when it's on their terms, they purposely knock stuff over, they will harrass your smaller pets. They can't be trained at all. Cats are jerks. Dogs can be trained. If a dog is I'll behaved, it's because his owner was too lazy to train him

I don't know what kind of cats you hang around but most of them are assholes (lovable assholes, but assholes nonetheless). My cat is 10x more likely to have an issue with you than my dog is.
They are two different species. Nobody expects a cat to act like a dog any more than a dog would act like a cow.
Many people don't know how to properly train their dogs.
Many people don't know how to act around dogs either, making the untrained dog act worse.
Many cats, who are not used to being outside and around many people, will freak out and lash out trying to run and hide to a more calm area.
A well trained dog, or a well socialized cat, will be fine.
And reporting an answer just because it says something nice about dogs won't do anything, because it doesn't go against any of the rules of the site, or the terms of use.
Cats are graceful creatures, very independent, they don't do what they are told, but if you are lucky enough to befriend one, they are as loyal as any dog.
I had a cat who would follow me around all day, he would sit next to me whenever I sat down and would curl up next to me on my bed, he was always by my side, the only times he wasn't was when he was either hungry/thirsty, needed to poo, or I was out of the house.
Dog are amazing creatures too though! I love both species.
