What is all the nonsense about being a 'snitch', 'rat', 'grass', 'informant'. How about this scenario?

I know what you mean.
It's quite ridiculous that anyone ever had the idea that 'snitching' is wrong.
If someone has done something illegal, has hurt someone, has robbed someone, they need to be reported, caught and dealt with by the police.
I think it starts in the school yard - little kids are told not to 'tell tales' on other kids. It's meant to stop them whining to the teachers about very minor arguments and encourage them to deal with them themselves.

But that's a world away from real crime. The whole culture of not 'snitching' should ideally be stopped somehow. I have no idea how, though! It's become an extreme form of bullying - tell the authorities about a criminal and you'll get beaten up, shunned by everyone or even killed. It only helps the criminal to get away with hurting people.

That's exactly what it is: nonesense. What SANE person would not "snitch" if they knew someone had committed a crime? To my way of thinking, that might be something a 6 year old would say about a friend who broke a lamp, but certainly not something over the age of 12 would do.

Please don't listen to the bad words of rumor-mongers and unscrupulous elements. They spread all such non-sense ... .... .... ..... 'informant'.

We may get confused if we try to enter the nonsense"s jurisdiction or scenario.
