1. 总是 and老是.
Basically, these two wordings have exactly the same meaning. The one nuance is: 总是is more commonly used in writing, but in spoken language, 老是, I feel, at least here in Taiwan, is more commonly used than 总是. The reason might be -总 has a basic meaning of always, but 老, basic meaning is “old” not “always”. In spoken language this two can be used interchangeably. Another nuance is, to say 老是, its mood is stronger than 总是, and it embodies a feeling of complaining for the bad thing happen again; while 总是 might not. 2. 从来 means from uncertain past to now.
This term has a similar meaning as老是 or 總是, but it hints a long period of time been involved. For example, if you are a complete novice in dancing and you invite a girl to dance, and supposedly you’ve already stepped on her feet for two times, then she might complain to you, you 老是 or 總是 step your foot on me. She will not use 从来, even though you know each other for a long time.
