(c).the same – A definite article is needed to refer to a specific place, not any places.

To use "the only" not matching the meaning of the sentence.

“alike place” is a wrong wording.
From Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English
Alike: adjective (not before noun)
very similar
My mother and I are alike in many ways.

To my mind the only thing to say after: "He has visited a great number of different places," is, "so he hasn't remained in just one place."

Of the choices offered, (c) is the one to chose.
