Is it worth doing a double degree of medicine and linguistics, or should I just choose one or the other?

You cannot study linguistics while in medical school. There is not enough time.
if you are talking about PRE-med (bachelors degree), that's different, and you can do it if you want to.

Useless combination. And medicine is so demanding that you don't have time to mess with anything else.

Medicine is a graduate professional degree. You can technically enter medical school with any degree, though you do need deep knowledge in life sciences to master the MCAT and generally survive in medical school, which is hard. Major in the life sciences and take a few linguistics courses on the side for fun. In order to be officially a linguist you'd have to do a PhD in that, and you won't have the time to do both, nor would that help a great deal.

In other countries it is different. My closest friend double majored in physics and music history. She was also going to another college of another university at the same and majored in biology, but her academic adviser had to tell her she need only one more course to graduate. Of course took the course.. She was admitted to medical school a DOUBLE doctorate program, but she decided NOT to get the Ph.D..
