Does increasing the refresh rate on a monitor decrease it's life?
I have a 1440p monitor with a max refresh rate of 144hz (although it is overclockable to 165hz). I have always thought that by running at a faster refresh rate I am sacrificing the lifespan of the display, if not then why wouldn't the manufacturer just say the max rate is 165hz instead of just saying it is overclockable to that much.
Anyways, due to my belief I decided I would set it to 120hz since it's very smooth at that speed and I don't notice any flickering, but would only bump it up to 144 when I'm playing games.
Am I correct, or is there no point in setting it at a lower refresh rate?

There are some internal components that might run a little hotter at a higher refresh rate. Would that be enough to make a difference in lifespan? There's no way to tell without doing a lot of testing work.
Me, I'd probably not overclock, unless I had a very good reason to do so. It's a lot like driving a car: drive it hard, and you'll shorten its life.
Personally, I like to get a lot of years out of my cars, and my computers.
