Do you agree with that?

Just heard that Sun Country is going to charge for carry ons to encourage us to do check in instead. They say carry ons delays boarding. Do you agre with that?

Is it not because they board from the front instead of back first that delays boarding?

I think all airlines should allow one free checked bag, then charge for a carryon that goes in the overhead and one free personal item for under the seat. The thing is, most people won't even need the carry on during the flight. I get that some people will be in a hurry getting off and don't want to visit the baggage claim so they should pay for that convieience.

It's when an airline charges for both carry on AND checked where it becomes shifty and scamy.

In principal it has some logic. The less time people waste trying to find space in an overhead bin, the faster you can depart. But the reality is that this effect is negligible at best.

Airlines have a choice to raise the fare for everyone, or make it more of an a la carte pricing with a lower base fare and then give the people the ability to add-on services they use. However, it often has a reverse effect of being seen as a "money grab" and being "nickel and dimed".

As a side note, I stay away from these ultra-low cost carriers where they don't charge for Carry-On's and we still leave the gate on-time and occasionally a few minutes early. But eventually just like the Checked Baggage Fees, the Carry-On fees will become standard on just about every airline. And with some airlines such as United and their "Basic Economy" fares it has already started.

YES people in the Aisle stuffing the bins delays boarding.
The Airplane does not make money sitting on the ground.
On landing people fetching their stuff delays exit.
Make up your mind do you want cheap cheap fare or do you want to pay for the stuff everyone else hauls from place to place.
Does not really matter from which end you board. PEOPLE will clog the Aisle as they stuff the bins.

I have read that it takes twice as long to board a plane full of Americans than a plane in other parts of the world because we insist on taking way too much stuff on board with us, and then spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to stuff it all into the compartment. Check your luggage- tracking systems have improved, and it's unlikely to be lost.

I have heard some people suggest airlines not charge for checked bags but for carry-on bags because this may speed up the boarding process. While there may be a little bit of truth to that, I think it would be better for the flying public to be more considerate when flying. For example I hate people who sit in the back of the plane, but put their carry-on bag in the first row overhead bin. Or people who put a hat/jacket or/pair of shoes in the overhead as well as their bag, thereby taking up 2 spaces. These things to me make the boarding process take longer because then others who board later have to find space in overhead bins somewhere else. I was once on a flight to LAX where I would connect there and then go to Asia. The flight was delayed by 2 hours and by the time my boarding zone was called, people already filled the overhead bin in my row. Therefore I had to put my bag about 3 rows behind me. With a tight connection already because of the 2 hour delay, I had to ask someone sitting 3 rows back to retrieve my bag.

There is a lot of logic to this. Its simply about speeding up the boarding process. I would recommend this, allow people a backpack or other personal item that can easily go under a seat at no charge. Offer people gate checks of roller bags, otherwise charge for them. Just anything that can speed this up. Airlines need to get more okay with telling people they need to check their items
