If you could travel back in time to a famous historical event in order to change the course of history what would you choose ?

There was a 1960's TV series 'The Time Tunnel' about two men trapped in a time machine. The operators were able to watch them and the first episode was The Titanic. They were not believed and the ship still went down.

I would not take a life but prevent instead. Like making sure one of Hitler's ancestors never meet.

I'd choose to go back to 1910 and try to stop the sinking of the Titanic by taking a copy of the London Times story on the ship hiting the iceberg two weeks before the ship left port.
