Basic English should have that read "Why do kids tell their parents 'no'". Dude, you're supposed to be at least 13 years old to post here on the site.

To express autonomy, which means acting on their own will to do this or that...its why toddlers say no even if they do want to nap etc theyre saying no just to feel a sense of power or control aka autonomy... once a childs older this all gets more complex...they may get enjoyment from disrespectful behavior especially if the parent gives in to the behavior which reinforces it....then teens are trying to become little adults and should be treated as such so as to not encourage more rebellious acts of autonomy ...they do plenty of that already, they dont understand rules and want to do what they want, at that point the parent is to decide what is too far, and what to allow.

So you think they should always say yes? Human and other animals have humanity and instinct by birth.

NO is a fun word for little ones to scream.
