關於英文that的用法問題。?

The Guinness Book of World Records celebrates strange things people do , and events that are hard to believe.
請問知識大大們，此句的events後面為什麼要接that，而不是直接and events are hard to believe.就好了呢？此that作用為何呢？謝謝。：）

The Guinness Book of World Records celebrates strange things (that) people do , and events that are hard to believe.

There are two relative clauses in the above sentence.
1. that people do (省略了關係代詞)
這個子句修飾 "strange things"
(如果子句變為被動語態，代詞就不能省略: strange things that are done by people)

2. that are hard to believe
這個子句修飾 "events", 關係代詞"that"不能省略，因為它是在子句主語的位置。

Both these two relative clauses are the modifiers of the two objects of the verb "celebrate".

The Guinness Book of World Records celebrates strange things [done by people] and [unbelievable] events.

that在英文裡好像可以當很多用法可以取代很多詞的樣子
