First IE of Na: Na(g) → Na⁺(g) + e⁻ …… ΔH = +495.5 kJ
First EA of I: I(g) + e⁻ → I⁻(g) …… ΔH = -295.3 kJ

Add the above 2 thermochemical equation, and cancel e⁻ on the both sides.
Na(g) + I(g) → Na⁺(g) + I⁻(g) …… ΔH = [(+495.5) + (-295.3)] kJ = +200.2 kJ

When 1 mole of Na(g) reacts with 1 mole of I(g) to form 1 mole of [Na⁺ I⁻],
200.2 kJ of energy are absorbed (but not released).
